The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ WHEN THAT which must come to pass [at last] comes to pass, 1 no soul will deny its coming. 2 It will bring low (some); (and others) it will exalt; 3 When the earth is shaken with convulsion 4 And the mountains will be crushed, blown to bits. 5 and become like scattered dust particles, 6 You shall then become three groups. 7 (First) those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 8 Companions of the Left, what are the Companions of the Left? 9 And those who surpassed have indeed excelled. 10 These will be those Nearest to Allah: 11 In the Gardens of Pleasure, 12 A number of people from those of old, 13 but only a few from the later generations. 14 They will recline on jewelled couches 15 reclining on them facing each other; 16 There wait on them immortal youths 17 with goblets and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 which will not cause them any intoxication or illness. 19 Also, they will be served with the fruits of their choice 20 And the flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And (there will be) Houris (fair females) with wide, lovely eyes (as wives for the pious), 22 Like unto Pearls well-guarded. 23 [And this will be] a reward for what they did [in life]. 24 No empty talk will they hear there, nor any call to sin, 25 All talk will be sound and upright. 26 The Companions of the Right Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 27 Among thornless lote-trees 28 and banana trees, 29 And spreading shade, 30 And water flowing constantly, 31 And fruit abundant. 32 That will neither finish, nor ever be stopped. 33 And raised couches; 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 So made them as maidens. 36 intensely loving and of matching age. 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
