The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
O thou shrouded in thy mantle, 1 Arise and warn! 2 proclaim the greatness of your Lord, 3 and purify your clothing, 4 And all defilement shun! 5 And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, 6 But for your Lord be patient. 7 When the Horn is blown, 8 that very Day shall be a day of anguish, 9 Not of ease, for disbelievers. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 And gave him vast wealth. 12 And sons always present by his side, 13 And made things easy for them. 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give him even more! 15 By no means! Verily he hath been unto Our signs a foe. 16 I will make a distressing punishment overtake him. 17 Indeed, he thought and deliberated. 18 May he be accursed, how he planned! 19 Again, death seized him, how was his determining! 20 Then he beheld, 21 then frowned and scowled; 22 Then turned he back, and grew stiff-necked. 23 And said: "This is nothing but the magic of old, 24 this is nothing but the word of a mere mortal!” 25 Soon I will cast him into hell. 26 Would that you really knew what hell is! 27 Naught doth it permit to endure, and naught doth it leave alone!- 28 Scorching the skin. 29 Over it are Nineteen. 30 And We have not made the keepers of the Fire except angels. And We have not made their number except as a trial for those who disbelieve - that those who were given the Scripture will be convinced and those who have believed will increase in faith and those who were given the Scripture and the believers will not doubt and that those in whose hearts is hypocrisy and the disbelievers will say, "What does Allah intend by this as an example?" Thus does Allah leave astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none knows the soldiers of your Lord except Him. And mention of the Fire is not but a reminder to humanity. 31
