Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
CONSIDER the daybreak 1 by the Ten (secret) Nights, 2 and the even and the odd, 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 There is indeed in them (the above oaths) sufficient proofs for men of understanding (and that, they should avoid all kinds of sins and disbeliefs, etc.)! 5 Dost thou not consider how thy Lord dealt with (the tribe of) A'ad, 6 Iram of the pillars, 7 The like of which were not produced in (all) the land? 8 And (with) Thamud (people), who cut (hewed) out rocks in the valley (to make dwellings)? 9 And the mighty Pharaoh 10 They were tyrants in the land 11 And made therein much mischief. 12 Therefore thy Lord poured on them the disaster of His punishment. 13 Indeed nothing is hidden from the sight of your Lord. 14 As for man - when his Lord proveth him and so honoureth him and is bounteous unto him, then he saith: 'my Lord hath honoured me, 15 but when He tests him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Lord has disgraced me." 16 Nay, but ye (for your part) honour not the orphan 17 Nor do ye encourage one another to feed the poor!- 18 and you devour the inheritance greedily, 19 and you love wealth with an ardent love 20 But no; when the earth is ground to powder, 21 And your Lord comes and (also) the angels in ranks, 22 And brought [within view], that Day, is Hell - that Day, man will remember, but what good to him will be the remembrance? 23 He shall say, 'O would that I had forwarded for my life!' 24 None punisheth as He will punish on that day! 25 and none can bind with bonds like His. 26 Serene soul, 27 "Come back to your Lord, Well-pleased (yourself) and well-pleasing unto Him! 28 Enter among My servants 29 Enter thou My Garden! 30
