And assuredly We revealed unto Musa, saying: depart in night with my bondmen, and make for them in the sea a path dry: thou shalt fear neither overtaking, nor shalt thou be afraid. 77 Then the Pharaoh followed them with his army, but the sea overpowered and engulfed them. 78 The Pharaoh and his people had gone away from guidance. 79 O Children of Israel; We delivered you from your enemy, and treated with you on the right side of the mount and sent down upon you the manna and the quails. 80 "Eat from the wholesome things with which We have provided you but do not transgress, lest you should incur My wrath." [We said], "He that incurs My wrath shall surely be ruined. 81 And verily I am the Most Forgiving unto whomsoever repenteth and believeth and worketh righteously, and thereafter letteth himself remain guided. 82 ۞ [AND GOD SAID:] "Now what has caused thee, O Moses, to leave thy people behind in so great a haste?" 83 He said: "They are right behind me. I have hastened to You, O Lord, so that You may be pleased." 84 He said: Lo! We have tried thy folk in thine absence, and As-Samiri hath misled them. 85 Then Moses went back unto his folk, angry and sad. He said: O my people! Hath not your Lord promised you a fair promise? Did the time appointed then appear too long for you, or did ye wish that wrath from your Lord should come upon you, that ye broke tryst with me? 86 They said: we failed not to keep thy appointment of our own authority, but we were laden with burthens of the people's ornaments; then we threw them, and thus the Samiri cast down. 87 He therefore made a calf for them – a lifeless body, making sounds like a cow – so they said, “This is your God and the God of Moosa; whereas Moosa has forgotten.” 88 Could they not see that it could not return them a word (for answer), and that it had no power either to harm them or to do them good? 89
