Tell them the story of Abraham, 69 When he said to his father and his people: "What do you worship?" 70 They answered: "There are some idols that we worship and are devoted to them with constancy." 71 'Do they hear you when you call on them' He asked. 72 or do they cause you any benefit or harm?" 73 They said: "No. But we found our fathers doing so." 74 Abraham said, "Have you really thought about what you have been worshipping, 75 “You and your forefathers preceding you.” 76 Verily they are an enemy unto me, save the Lord of the worlds. 77 Who created me, and He doth guide me, 78 and is the One who gives me to eat and to drink, 79 And when I sicken, then He healeth me. 80 and who will cause me to die and then will bring me back to life 81 and who I am eager shall forgive me my offence on the Day of Doom. 82 My Lord, bestow wisdom upon me; unite me with the righteous; 83 And give unto me a good report in later generations. 84 And place me among the inheritors of the Garden of Pleasure. 85 and forgive my father; for he is one of the misguided; 86 Do not betray me 87 The Day when neither wealth nor sons shall benefit 88 except for him who comes to God with a pure heart. 89 And Paradise will be brought near to the Muttaqun (pious - see V. 2:2). 90 whereas the blazing fire will be laid open before those who had been lost in grievous error; 91 They will be asked: "Where are those you worshipped 92 “Instead of Allah? Will they help you or retaliate?” 93 "Then they will be thrown headlong into the (Fire),- they and those straying in Evil, 94 And the whole hosts of Iblis (Satan) together. 95 "They will say there in their mutual bickerings: 96 "'By Allah, we were truly in an error manifest, 97 When we made you equal to the Lord of the worlds; 98 And none led us astray except the culprits. 99 We have no one to intercede for us before God 100 and no sincere friend. 101 Would that we had a second chance [in life,] so that we could be among the believers!" 102 Indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 103 Verily your Lord is mighty and merciful. 104
