Thamud (people) belied the Messenger. 141 When their brother Salih said to them: Will you not guard (against evil)? 142 Behold, I am an apostle [sent by Him] to you, [and therefore] worthy of your trust: 143 So fear Allah, and obey me. 144 For this I demand no recompense from you; my reward is only with the Lord of the Universe. 145 "Do you think that you will be left secure [forever] in the midst of what you have here and now? 146 “In gardens and water springs?” 147 And cornfields and palm-trees having fine spadices? 148 “And you carve out dwellings in the mountains, with skill?” 149 Have fear of God and obey me. 150 and do not follow the biddings of those that go to excesses 151 those who spread corruption on earth instead of setting things to rights!" 152 They said, 'Thou art merely one of those that are bewitched; 153 "Thou art no more than a mortal like us: then bring us a Sign, if thou tellest the truth!" 154 He said: "Here is a she-camel: she has a right of watering, and ye have a right of watering, (severally) on a day appointed. 155 Do not treat her unkindly or the punishment of a grievous day will fall on you." 156 But they hamstrung her, then regretted; 157 So the chastisement seized them. Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 158 Your Lord is the Mighty One, the Merciful. 159
