Verily this is a Revelation from the Lord of the Worlds: 192 which the truthful spirit has carried down 193 upon thy heart, that thou mayest be one of the warners, 194 In plain Arabic speech. 195 Without doubt it is (announced) in the mystic Books of former peoples. 196 Is it not a Sign to them - (to wit, the Makkans) - that the learned men of the Children of Israel know that? 197 Had We revealed it to any one of the non-Arabs, 198 and he had recited it to them, they would not have believed. 199 Thus have We caused it to enter into the hearts of the guilty. 200 They will not believe it until they behold the painful punishment. 201 It shall come unto them on a sudden, and they shall not perceive. 202 Then they will say: Shall we be respited? 203 So for Our punishment are they impatient? 204 What do you see? If We gave them enjoyment for years, 205 and thereupon that [chastisement] which they were promised befalls them 206 of what avail will be the provisions of life which they have been granted to enjoy? 207 Never did We destroy a population, but had its warners - 208 for a reminder, and We never harmed. 209 The devils did not bring it down. 210 And it behoves them not, and they have not the power to do (it). 211 Indeed they have been banished from the place of hearing. 212 So call on no other god but God, lest you are condemned to torment; 213 Warn your close relatives 214 and be kind to your believing followers. 215 If they do not obey you, tell them: "I am not responsible for what you do." 216 And put thy trust in the Mighty, the Merciful. 217 Who seeth thee when thou standest up 218 and [sees] thy behaviour among those who prostrate themselves [before Him]: 219 for, verily, He alone is all-hearing, all-knowing! 220 Shall I inform you upon whom the devils descend? 221 They descend upon every sinful liar. 222 They incline their ears, and most of them are liars. 223 As for the poets, only those who go astray follow them. 224 Do you not see that they wander about in every valley 225 And that they say what they do not do? - 226 Except those who believe, work righteousness, engage much in the remembrance of Allah, and defend themselves only after they are unjustly attacked. And soon will the unjust assailants know what vicissitudes their affairs will take! 227
