The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O YOU ENFOLDED in your mantle (of reform), 1 Rise up and warn! 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 Purify your inner self, 4 Pollution shun! 5 Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! 6 And for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 For when the trumpet blows 8 that shall be a Harsh Day 9 Dolorous for the unbelievers. 10 Leave to Me the one, whom I have created all by Myself, 11 And gave him vast wealth. 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 And for whom I smoothed everything. 14 and who still desires more. 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 We shall make him suffer the torment of hell without relief. 17 Indeed, he thought and deliberated. 18 death seize him, how he determined! 19 And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! 20 Then he looked around, 21 Then frowned and grimaced. 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 This is naught but the word of a mortal. 25 I will cast him into the fire of Hell. 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It neither leaves, nor spares. 28 it scorches the skin; 29 over it are nineteen. 30 We have made only angels as the keepers of the fire (for they are the strongest in carrying out Our commands). Our informing (people) of the numbers of these angels is a trial for the disbelievers. It gives more certainty to the people of the Book and strengthens the faith of the believers. The people of the Book and the believers have no doubt about it. We have fixed the number to make the disbelievers and those whose hearts are sick say, "What does God mean by such a parable?" Thus, God guides and causes to go astray whomever He wants. No one knows about the army of your Lord except He Himself. This parable is a reminder for mankind. 31
