The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 Arise and warn! 2 proclaim the greatness of your Lord, 3 And keep your clothes clean. 4 and defilement flee! 5 And bestow not favour that thou mayest receive more. 6 And for the sake of your Lord, patiently endure. 7 So when the Trumpet will be blown. 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 Far from easy for those without Faith. 10 Leave him to Me whom I created alone, 11 And gave him vast wealth. 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 and whom I have provided with every resource, 14 and who still greedily desires that I should bestow upon him more. 15 Nay! He is forward unto Our signs; 16 Soon will I visit him with a mount of calamities! 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 But may he be cursed how he plotted; 19 Yea, Woe to him; How he plotted!- 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 Then frowned he and scowled. 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 And said, “This is nothing but magic learnt from earlier men.” 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 And what can make you know what is Saqar? 27 It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], 28 It scorches the mortal. 29 Over it are appointed nineteen. 30 And We have set none but angels as guardians of the Fire, and We have fixed their number (19) only as a trial for the disbelievers, in order that the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) may arrive at a certainty [that this Quran is the truth as it agrees with their Books i.e. their number (19) is written in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and the believers may increase in Faith (as this Quran is the truth) and that no doubts may be left for the people of the Scripture and the believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy) and the disbelievers may say: "What Allah intends by this (curious) example?" Thus Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none can know the hosts of your Lord but He. And this (Hell) is nothing else than a (warning) reminder to mankind. 31
