Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the dawn; 1 And the ten nights, 2 by the even, and the odd, 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 There is indeed in them (the above oaths) sufficient proofs for men of understanding (and that, they should avoid all kinds of sins and disbeliefs, etc.)! 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with 'Aad - 6 Iram of the pillars, 7 The like of which were not created in the (other) cities; 8 And [with] Thamud, who carved out the rocks in the valley? 9 And with Pharaoh of the tent pegs 10 (All) these transgressed beyond bounds in the lands, 11 And made therein much mischief. 12 (Therefore) your Lord let loose upon them a scourge of punishment; 13 for, indeed, your Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 As for the human being, when his Lord tests him, honors him, and grants him bounty, he says, "God has honored me". 15 However, when his Lord tests him by a measured amount of sustenance, he says, "God has disgraced me". 16 But no; you do not treat the orphan honourably, 17 And urge not on the feeding of the poor. 18 And you consume inheritance, devouring [it] altogether, 19 And ye love riches with exceeding love. 20 Nay, but when the earth is ground to atoms, grinding, grinding, 21 And your Lord comes and (also) the angels in ranks, 22 And hell is made to appear on that day. On that day shall man be mindful, and what shall being mindful (then) avail him? 23 He will say: "Oh, would that I had provided beforehand for my life [to come]!" 24 Then on that Day Allah will chastise as none other can chastise; 25 And none will bind as He will bind. 26 O the contented soul! 27 Return unto thine Lord well pleased and well-pleasing. 28 Enter thou among My servants! 29 into My Paradise. 30
