۞ And certainly We gave to Ibrahim his rectitude before, and We knew him fully well. 51 Recall what time he said unto his father and his people: what are these images to which ye are cleaving? 52 They answered: "We found our forefathers worshipping them." 53 He said: "You and your fathers were in clear error." 54 They said, "Have you come to us with truth, or are you of those who jest?" 55 He said, “In fact, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, the One Who created them; and I am of those who testify to it.” 56 By Allah, I shall certainly carry out my plan against your gods after you are gone." 57 So he broke them into pieces, except the chief of them, that haply they may return to it. 58 [When they saw what had happened,] they said: "Who has done this to our gods? Verily, one of the worst wrongdoers is he!" 59 Said some [of them]: "We heard a youth speak of these [gods with scorn]: he is called Abraham." 60 They said: 'Then bring him here so that the people may see, so that they may bear witness' 61 (On Abraham's arrival) they said: "Abraham, are you he who has done this to our gods?" 62 He said: "Nay, this was done by - this is their biggest one! ask them, if they can speak intelligently!" 63 So they returned one to another, and they said, 'Surely it is you who are the evildoers.' 64 Then they turned to themselves (their first thought and said): "Indeed you [Ibrahim (Abraham)] know well that these (idols) speak not!" 65 He said: 'Would you then worship that, instead of Allah, which can neither help nor harm you? 66 Fie on you and those you worship besides God! Will you not understand?" 67 They said: "Burn him, and save your gods, if you are men of action." 68 We said to the fire, "Be cool and peaceful (with Abraham)". 69 And they wished to set a snare for him, but We made them the greater losers. 70 So We delivered him and Lot, and brought them to the land We had blessed for all the people. 71 And We bestowed upon him ls-haq and Ya qub as a grandson; and each one We made righteous. 72 And We made them leaders who guide by Our command, and We sent them the divine revelation to do good deeds and to keep the prayer established and to give charity; and they used to worship Us. 73 To Lot We gave knowledge and wisdom and saved him from the people of the town who were committing indecent acts. They were certainly a bad and sinful people. 74 And We took him into Our mercy; surely he was of the good. 75
