۞ (God will command the angels), "Gather together the unjust, their spouses, and what they had worshipped 22 besides God, and show them the way of hell. 23 And detain them, for they will be questioned." 24 'Why do you not help one another? 25 Nay, but on that Day they would willingly surrender [to God]; 26 And they will turn to one another, and question one another. 27 They will say: "It was ye who used to come to us from the right hand (of power and authority)!" 28 They will say: "No, you were the ones who would not believe. 29 And we had over you no authority, but ye were a people exorbitant. 30 The sentence of our Lord has come true for us. We have certainly to taste (the punishment), 31 "We led you astray: for truly we were ourselves astray." 32 So all of them on that day are sharers in the chastisement. 33 This is how We deal with the criminals. 34 Indeed they, when it was said to them, "There is no deity but Allah," were arrogant 35 and said: 'Are we to renounce our gods for the sake of a mad poet' 36 (They say so although) he brought the Truth and confirmed the veracity of the Messengers. 37 you shall surely taste the painful punishment, 38 But it will be no more than the retribution of (the Evil) that ye have wrought;- 39 But the sincere servants of God 40 Those! theirs shall be a provision known: 41 Fruits; and they shall be honoured, 42 In gardens of pleasure, 43 facing one another [in love] upon thrones of happiness. 44 Cups of wine will be presented to them in rounds, from a spring flowing in front of them. 45 Clear, delicious to drink, 46 Neither dulling the senses nor intoxicating, 47 And besides them will be chaste women, restraining their glances, with big eyes (of wonder and beauty). 48 As if they were eggs, safely hidden. 49 Then they will advance unto each other, mutually questioning. 50 One of them will say: “I had a companion in the world 51 Who said: What! are you indeed of those who accept (the truth)? 52 What! when we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we then be certainly brought to judgment? 53 He will say: -- Do you wish to know where he is now?' 54 He looked down and saw him in the midst of the Fire. 55 He says, 'By God, wellnigh thou didst destroy me; 56 for had it not been for my Sustainer's favour, I would surely be [now] among those who are given over [to suffering]! 57 (Another will say:)"Is it true, we are not going to die 58 Other than our first death, and we shall not be punished? 59 This will indeed be great happiness. 60 For this the toilers should strive." 61 Is this better as an entertainment or the tree of Zaqqum? 62 We have indeed made that a punishment for the unjust. 63 Verily it is a tree that springeth forth in the bottom of Flaming Fire. 64 and its fruits are like devils' heads. 65 and they [who are lost in evil] are indeed bound to eat thereof, and to fill their bellies therewith. 66 Then after it, indeed for them is the drink of boiling hot water. 67 And thereafter verily their return is unto the Flaming Fire. 68 Indeed they found their fathers astray. 69 So they hastened [to follow] in their footsteps. 70 And verily most of the men of old went astray before them, 71 We had certainly sent warners to them. 72 and behold, how was the end of them that were warned, 73 Not so the chosen servants of God. 74
