Al-Layl
The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the night enshrouding 1 By the day when it appeareth in glory, 2 and by that (Power) which created the male and female, 3 Verily, [O men,] you aim at most divergent ends! 4 As for he who gives and fears Allah 5 And testifieth to the Good, 6 We shall ease the way of fortune for him. 7 But as for he who withholds and considers himself free of need 8 and calls the ultimate good a lie 9 for him shall We make easy the path towards hardship: 10 and their wealth will be of no benefit to them when they face destruction. 11 Indeed, Guidance is Ours, 12 And to Us belong the End and the Beginning. 13 I therefore warn you of the fire that is ablaze. 14 whereat none but the most wretched shall be roasted, 15 Who denies and turns away. 16 But the God-fearing shall be kept away from it, 17 who spend for the cause of God and purify themselves. 18 And no one has done a favour to him, for which he should be compensated. 19 Other than seeking the glory of his Lord, most high, 20 And presently he shall become well pleased. 21
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
