The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ WHEN THE SKY is split asunder, 1 And hearkens to its Lord and is dutiful, 2 And when the earth has been extended 3 And shall cast forth that which is therein, and shall become empty. 4 And it hearkeneth to its Lord, and is duteous. 5 O man! surely you must strive (to attain) to your Lord, a hard striving until you meet Him. 6 he who is given his record in his right hand 7 shall have an easy reckoning 8 And will return to his people full of joy. 9 But whosoever is given his Record behind his back, 10 he will in time pray for utter destruction: 11 And will go into the blazing fire. 12 Behold, [in his earthly life] he lived joyfully among people of his own kind 13 Truly, did he think that he would not have to return (to Us)! 14 Why not? His Lord was always watching him. 15 So by oath of the late evening’s light. 16 by the night and all that it envelops; 17 and the moon, as it grows to its fullness: 18 that you will certainly pass through one stage after another. 19 So, what is the matter with them that they do not believe, 20 Why, when the Quran is recited to them, do they not prostrate themselves? ۩ 21 Nay! those who disbelieve give the lie to the truth. 22 But God knows what they harbour in their breasts. 23 Wherefore announce thou unto them a torment afflictive. 24 Except those who believe and do the right: For them there is reward unending. 25
