A'ad denied the Noble Messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said to them: Will you not guard (against evil)? 124 I am a trustworthy messenger for you: 125 be, then, conscious of God, and pay heed unto me! 126 I ask of you no wage for this; my wage falls only upon the Lord of all Being. 127 "Do ye build a landmark on every high place to amuse yourselves? 128 And take ye for yourselves castles that haply ye may abide. 129 And if ye seize by force, seize ye as tyrants? 130 So guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me 131 Fear Him who has bestowed on you what you know, 132 "Freely has He bestowed on you cattle and sons,- 133 And orchards and springs. 134 Surely I fear for you the chastisement of a grievous day 135 They said, 'Alike it is to us, whether thou admonishest, or art not one of the admonishers; 136 This is naught but a custom of the ancients; 137 "And we are not the ones to receive Pains and Penalties!" 138 So they belied him, so We destroyed them. Surely, in that there is a sign; yet most of them do not believe. 139 Surely, your Lord is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 140
