HAST THOU, then, ever considered him who turns away [from remembering Us, and cares for no more than the life of this world,] 33 And he gave a little, then refrained? 34 Does he have knowledge of the hidden, so he can foresee? 35 Hath he not been told of that which is in the writs of Musa. 36 And Abraham who paid his debt: 37 That no soul laden bears the load of another, 38 and that a man shall have to his account only as he has laboured, 39 That (the fruit of) his striving will soon come in sight: 40 and that he shall then be fully recompensed, 41 To your Lord will all things eventually return. 42 That it is He Who granteth Laughter and Tears; 43 and that He it is Who causes death and grants life, 44 And that He created pairs, the male and the female 45 from an ejected drop of sperm; 46 And that [incumbent] upon Him is the next creation 47 and that it is He who gives riches and causes to hoard, 48 and that He is the Lord of (the star) Sirius, 49 that He it is Who destroyed the ancient 'Ad, 50 and Thamud, leaving no trace [of them,] 51 and that He it is Who destroyed the people of Noah before for they were much given to iniquity and transgression. 52 And the overturned towns He hurled down 53 So there covered them that which did cover (i.e. torment with stones). 54 How many favours of your Lord will you then deny? 55 This is a warner of the warners of old. 56 The Day of Judgment is drawing nearer. 57 [although] none but God can unveil it.... 58 At this discourse then marvel ye? 59 Will you laugh at it rather than weep? 60 Wasting your (precious) lifetime in pastime and amusements (singing, etc.). 61 But fall ye down in prostration to Allah, and adore (Him)! ۩ 62
