Surely We brought man into being out of dry ringing clay which was wrought from black mud, 26 and the jinn We had created before from flaming fire. 27 And recall what time thy Lord said unto the angels: verily I am about to create a man from ringing clay of loam moulded. 28 "When I have fashioned him (in due proportion) and breathed into him of My spirit, fall ye down in obeisance unto him." 29 So the angels fell prostrate, all of them together 30 except iblis (father of the jinn) who refused to be one of those who prostrated themselves. 31 Said He, 'What ails thee, Iblis, that thou art not among those bowing?' 32 He said: I am not one to prostrate myself unto a mortal whom Thou hast created out of potter's clay of black mud altered! 33 Said He, 'Then go thou forth hence; thou art accursed. 34 And lo! the curse shall be upon thee till the Day of Judgment. 35 He said, "My Lord, then reprieve me until the Day they are resurrected." 36 He said: Then lo! thou art of those reprieved 37 until the day of a known time." 38 (Iblis) said: "O my Lord! because Thou hast put me in the wrong, I will make (wrong) fair-seeming to them on the earth, and I will put them all in the wrong,- 39 except for Your chosen servants." 40 Said He, 'This is for Me a straight path: 41 Indeed, My servants - no authority will you have over them, except those who follow you of the deviators. 42 And verily, Hell is the promised abode for them all! 43 It has seven gates, and through each gate a portion of them belong. 44
