The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
O YOU ENFOLDED in your mantle (of reform), 1 stand up, deliver your warning, 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 purify your garments; 4 And all defilement shun! 5 and bestow not favour in order to seek from others a greater return, 6 but unto thy Sustainer turn in patience. 7 When the Horn is blown, 8 that very Day shall be a day of anguish, 9 Far from easy for those without Faith. 10 Leave Me Alone (to deal) with whom I created Alone (without any means, i.e. Al-Walid bin Al-Mughirah Al-Makhzumi)! 11 And to whom I granted extensive wealth 12 And children present [with him] 13 and made all things smooth for him; 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. 16 On him I shall impose a fearful doom. 17 Verily, he thought and plotted; 18 So let him be cursed! How he plotted! 19 Then may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 Then frowned and grimaced. 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 And said: "This is nothing but the magic of old, 24 This is naught but the word of a mortal. 25 Anon shall I roast him into the Scorching Fire. 26 and what will teach thee what is Sakar? 27 It spares not, neither leaves alone 28 It strips away the hide of man. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell). 30 We have not appointed any one but angels as keepers of Hell, and their number that We have fixed is to make it a means of contention for disbelievers, so that those who were given the Book may be certain, and the faith of the believers may have greater increase, and the people of the Book and believers may not be deceived, and the sceptics and infidels may say: "What does God mean by this parable?" That is how God leads whosoever He will astray, and guides whosoever He will. None knows the armies of your Lord save Him self. This is no more than reminder for mankind. 31
