The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ About what are they asking one another? 1 About the great tidings! 2 whereon they are at variance. 3 Verily, they shall soon (come to) know! 4 Nay, again, they will come to know! 5 Did We not make the earth a spreading, 6 And the mountains as stakes? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 And have appointed your sleep for repose, 9 And made the night as clothing 10 And the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And constructed above you seven strong [heavens] 12 And We made a shining lamp, 13 And We send down from the clouds water pouring forth abundantly, 14 So that We bring forth thereby corn and vegetation. 15 And dense gardens. 16 The Day of Judgment will certainly be the final appointment. 17 the day the Trumpet is blown, and you shall come in troops, 18 And the heaven is opened and becometh as gates, 19 And the mountains shall be moved off so that they shall remain a mere semblance. 20 Behold, Gehenna has become an ambush, 21 For the exorbitant a receptacle. 22 They will tarry therein for ages. 23 Neither coolness shall they taste therein nor any [thirst-quenching] drink 24 Except scalding water and [foul] purulence - 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 Verily they were wont not to look for a reckoning. 27 But they (impudently) treated Our Signs as false. 28 And We have recorded everything in a book, 29 So taste (of that which ye have earned). No increase do We give you save of torment. 30
