The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ OF WHAT ARE they asking one another? 1 About the great tidings! 2 whereupon they are at variance? 3 Nay, they will come to know! 4 Nay, again, but they will come to know! 5 Did We not make the earth a spreading, 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 And have appointed your sleep for repose, 9 And made the night as a covering, 10 And We have made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), 12 And have kept a very bright lamp in it. 13 and have sent down from the clouds, pouring rain 14 so that We might bring forth thereby grain, and herbs, 15 and gardens dense with foliage. 16 Indeed the Day of Decision is a time fixed. 17 the day the Trumpet is blown, and you shall come in troops, 18 and heaven is opened, and become gates, 19 The mountains will be driven away and become like mirages. 20 Indeed, Gehenna (Hell) has become an ambush, 21 For the exorbitant a receptacle. 22 therein to tarry for ages, 23 They will neither taste anything cool in it, nor anything to drink. 24 Except boiling water, and dirty wound discharges. 25 Requital corresponding. 26 for they never expected to be called to account, 27 But they (impudently) treated Our Signs as false. 28 and everything We have numbered in a Book. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
