Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Hath there come unto thee tidings of the Overwhelming? 1 (Some) faces on that day shall be downcast, 2 troubled and tired as a result of their deeds in the past. 3 Burning in the scorching fire, 4 Made to drink water from the boiling hot spring. 5 No food for them save the bitterness of dry thorns, 6 Which neither give strength nor satisfy the hunger. 7 (Whereas other) faces on that Day will be joyful, 8 well pleased with the result of their striving, 9 In a Garden on high, 10 Wherein you shall not hear vain talk. 11 In it there shall be a flowing spring, 12 Within it are couches raised high 13 Goblets set, 14 and arranged cushions 15 and outspread carpets. 16 What, do they not reflect upon how the camel was created? 17 And how the heaven was raised up, 18 how the mountains were hoisted, 19 And the earth – how it has been spread out? 20 Then remind them! Thou art only a reminder; 21 Thou art not over them a warden. 22 Save the one who turns away and disbelieves 23 God will punish them with the greatest torment. 24 Verily unto Us is their return. 25 and verily, It is for Us to call them to account. 26
