The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the night when it enshrouds, 1 by the day when it appears radiant, 2 And by oath of the One Who created the male and the female. 3 you strive in various ways. 4 So he who gives (in charity) and fears (Allah), 5 and believes in the truth of what is right, 6 for him shall We make easy the path towards [ultimate] ease. 7 But he who is a greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient, 8 and denied the Truth of goodness: 9 Surely We will ease his way unto adversity. 10 nor will his wealth profit him when he falls [into the pit]. 11 Surely upon Us rests the guidance, 12 and to Us belong the Next Life and the present. 13 Therefore I warn you of the fire that flames: 14 No one will burn in it but the most wretched, 15 Who belieth and turneth away. 16 And avoid it shall the most pious, 17 Who giveth away his substance that he may be cleansed, 18 They do not expect any reward 19 Except only the desire to seek the Countenance of his Lord, the Most High; 20 He will surely be well-pleased (with him). 21
