And recite to them the news of Abraham, 69 [how it was] when he asked his father and his people, "What is it that you worship?" 70 They answered: "There are some idols that we worship and are devoted to them with constancy." 71 He said, “Do they hear you when you call?” 72 Or do they benefit you, or do you harm?" 73 They said: "Nay, but we found our fathers doing thus (what we do)." 74 Abraham said, "Have you really thought about what you have been worshipping, 75 Ye and your fathers of old? 76 "Now [as for me, I know that,] verily, these [false deities] are my enemies, [and that none is my helper] save the Sustainer of all the worlds, 77 Who created me and Who guides me; 78 and is the One who gives me to eat and to drink, 79 who, when I am sick, heals me; 80 And Who causeth me to die, then giveth me life (again), 81 “And the One Who, upon Whom I pin my hopes, will forgive me my mistakes on the Day of Judgement.” 82 My Lord, give me judgment, and join me with the righteous. 83 And grant me an honourable mention in later generations; 84 And make me of the heirs of the garden of bliss 85 Forgive me and my father: He was surely among those who went astray. 86 And do not disgrace me on the day when they are raised from the graves, 87 on the Day of Judgment when neither wealth nor children will be of any benefit 88 Save him who bringeth unto Allah a whole heart. 89 For, [on that Day,] paradise will be brought within sight of the God-conscious, 90 And Hell made visible to those who had gone astray. 91 They will be asked: "Where are those you worshipped 92 apart from God? Do they help you or help themselves?' 93 Then they will be thrown headlong into Hell, both they and the misguided ones, 94 and the army of satan will all be thrown headlong into hell. 95 And there and then, blaming one another, they [who had grievously sinned in life] will exclaim: 96 "By God, we were most obviously astray 97 “When we considered you equal to the Lord Of The Creation.” 98 It is none but those steeped in guilt who led us into this error, 99 “So now we do not have any intercessors.” (The believers shall have intercessors, the disbelievers none). 100 Nor any loving friend. 101 If only we could return and be among the believers!" 102 Verily! In this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 103 Your Lord is certainly Majestic and All-merciful. 104
