۞ [And God will thus command:] "Assemble all those who were bent on evildoing, together with others of their ilk and [with] all that they were wont to worship 22 Other than God," (the angels will be told), "then show them the way to Hell, 23 Stop them. They must be questioned." 24 How is it that you are not helping one another? 25 Nay! on that day they shall be submissive. 26 And some of them shall advance towards others, questioning each other. 27 Some [of them] will say: "Behold, you were wont to approach us [deceptively] from the right!" 28 But they reply: 'Rather, you were not believers. 29 And we had over you no authority, but you were a transgressing people. 30 So on us hath been justified the sentence of our Lord: verily we are to taste. 31 "So we led you astray because we were ourselves astray." 32 So they shall on that day be sharers in the chastisement one with another. 33 Verily, thus shall We deal with all who were lost in sin: 34 They were those who, when it was said to them, "There is no god but God," behaved with insolence, 35 and said: “Shall we forsake our deities for the sake of a distracted poet?” 36 "Surely, he has brought the truth, confirming those who were sent before; 37 (They will be told), "You will certainly suffer the painful torment 38 But it will be no more than the retribution of (the Evil) that ye have wrought;- 39 Save the chosen slaves of Allah (faithful, obedient, true believers of Islamic Monotheism). 40 For them is the sustenance known to Us. 41 as the fruits [of their life on earth]; and honoured shall they be 42 In gardens of pleasure 43 on couches facing each other. 44 A cup will be passed round among them [with a drink] from unsullied springs, 45 Clear, delicious to drink, 46 causing no headiness or intoxication. 47 And with them are those who do not set gaze upon men except their husbands, the maidens with gorgeous eyes. 48 as if they were hidden pearls. 49 Then shall some of them advance to others, questioning each other. 50 One of them says, 'I had a comrade 51 'Do you believe in the Day of Judgment? 52 "(That) when we die and become dust and bones, shall we indeed (be raised up) to receive reward or punishment (according to our deeds)?" 53 He saith: Will ye look? 54 and then he looks and sees that [companion of his] in the midst of the blazing fire, 55 He said: "By Allah! thou wast little short of bringing me to perdition! 56 But for the Favor of Allah I should have surely been among those who were arraigned (with you in Hell). 57 He will ask his companion, "Did you not say that there would only be one death 58 except our first death, and shall we not be punished' 59 This is indeed the mighty triumph, 60 For the like of this then let the workers work. 61 Is that (Paradise) better entertainment or the tree of Zaqqum (a horrible tree in Hell)? 62 We have made this (tree) a trial for the evildoers. 63 For it is a tree that springs out of the bottom of Hellfire: 64 Its spathes are like the heads of satans. 65 The dwellers of hell will eat that fruit and fill-up their bellies. 66 And afterward, lo! thereupon they have a drink of boiling water 67 Then most surely their return shall be to hell. 68 Verily they found their fathers gone astray. 69 yet they run in their footsteps, 70 yet before them most of the ancients went astray, 71 And assuredly We sent among them warners. 72 Therefore see what sort of fate befell those who were warned! 73 Except the sincere (and devoted) Servants of Allah. 74
