۞ NOW WHENEVER [the nature of] the son of Mary is set forth as an example, [O Muhammad,] lo! thy people raise an outcry on this score, 57 saying, "Are our gods better or him?" -- they cite him only to challenge you: they are a contentious people -- 58 He is only a servant We blessed, and We made him to be an example to the Children of Israel. 59 if We had so wished, We could have appointed angels in exchange for you to succeed you on the earth. 60 AND, BEHOLD, this [divine writ] is indeed a means to know [that] the Last Hour [is bound to come]; hence, have no doubt whatever about it, but follow Me: this [alone] is a straight way. 61 And let not the Shaitan prevent you; surely he is your open enemy. 62 When Jesus came with clear proofs (of Allah's Sovereignty), he said: I have come unto you with wisdom, and to make plain some of that concerning which ye differ. So keep your duty to Allah, and obey me. 63 "Verily, Allah! He is my Lord (God) and your Lord (God). So worship Him (Alone). This is the (only) Straight Path (i.e. Allah's religion of true Islamic Monotheism)." 64 Then the factions fell apart among themselves. So woe to the wrong-doers from the chastisement of a grievous Day. 65 What are they waiting for – except the Last Day, that it may suddenly come upon them while they are unaware? 66 The friends shall on that day be enemies one to another, except those who guard (against evil). 67
