Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
HaMeem 1 By oath of this clear Book. 2 We have indeed sent it down in a blessed night – indeed it is We Who warn. 3 In it every wise matter is determined 4 As commands from Us. It is indeed We who send (messengers), 5 A Mercy from your Lord, He is the Hearer, the Knower. 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and what is between them, if you would be sure. 7 There is no god but He: It is He Who gives life and gives death,- The Lord and Cherisher to you and your earliest ancestors. 8 Nay, but they play in doubt. 9 Then wait you for the Day when the sky will bring forth a visible smoke. 10 Covering the people, this shall be a torment afflictive. 11 Our Lord! remove from us the punishment; surely we are believers. 12 [But] how shall this remembrance avail them [at the Last Hour,] seeing that an apostle had previously come unto them, clearly expounding the truth, 13 Whereas they had then turned away from him and said, “He is a madman, tutored!”? 14 We are removing the punishment a little, but you revert. 15 On the day when We shall seize them with the greater seizure, (then) in truth We shall punish. 16 ۞ And assuredly afore them We proved Fir'awn's people, and there came unto them an apostle honoured. 17 Saying: Give up to me the slaves of Allah. Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you. 18 Do not rise up against Allah, I come to you with clear authority. 19 I have taken refuge in my Lord and your Lord against your stoning me to death. 20 And if you do not believe in me, then leave me alone. 21 Then he called upon his Lord: “These are a criminal people.” 22 We told him, "Leave the city with My servants during the night. You will be pursued. 23 Then leave the sea calm they are an army that will be drowned. 24 How many of the gardens and fountains have they left! 25 and sown fields, fine sitting places, 26 and what prosperity they had rejoiced in! 27 Even so (it was), and We made it an inheritance for other folk; 28 And the heavens and the earth wept not for them, nor were they given a respite. 29
