He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 To him you attend; 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 and in awe [of God] 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 These verses are a reminder 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 noble, pious. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 to yield therein corn, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Some faces that Day, will be bright (true believers of Islamic Monotheism). 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
