Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the dawn 1 and ten nights, 2 And the Even and the Odd, 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 Is there (not) in these an adjuration (or evidence) for those who understand? 5 Have you not heard of how your Lord dealt with the tribe of 'Ad, 6 Iram of the pillars, 7 the like of which was never created in the countries? 8 and Thamood, who hollowed the rocks in the valley, 9 (Also consider the people of) the Pharaoh who victimized people by placing them on the stake, 10 who transgressed in the countries of the world 11 spreading in them much corruption? 12 Therefore your Lord struck them hard with the means of punishment. 13 Indeed, your Lord is in observation. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by honoring him and favoring him, he says: 'My Lord, has honored me' 15 But when He trieth him, restricting his subsistence for him, then saith he (in despair), "My Lord hath humiliated me!" 16 No! But you do not honor the orphan 17 and you do not urge one another to feed the needy, 18 and greedily devour the entire inheritance, 19 and love the riches, loving them ardently. 20 No indeed! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 and (when you find yourself) in the presence of your Lord and the rows and rows of angels, your greed for riches will certainly be of no avail to you. 22 And the Hell on that Day shall be brought nigh. On that Day man shall remember, but how will remembrance avail him? 23 He will say, “Alas – if only I had sent some good deeds ahead, during my lifetime!” 24 But on that Day none will punish as He (Allah) will punish, 25 and none can bind with bonds like His. 26 O satisfied soul, 27 Return towards your Lord – you being pleased with Him, and He pleased with you! 28 So enter among My (righteous) servants 29 And enter My Paradise." 30
