In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O THOU enwrapped one! 1 Stand (to prayer) by night, but not all night,- 2 Half of it,- or a little less, 3 Or a little more, and recite the Qur'an slowly and distinctly. 4 Behold, We shall bestow upon thee a weighty message 5 Prayer at night leaves the strongest impression on one's soul and the words spoken are more consistent. 6 During the day, you are preoccupied with many activities. 7 And remember the name of your Lord and, leaving others, devote yourself solely to Him. 8 He is the Lord of the East and the West; there is no god except Him. Take Him for your Guardian. 9 And be patient (O Muhammad SAW) with what they say, and keep away from them in a good way. 10 And leave Me Alone to deal with the beliers (those who deny My Verses, etc.), and those who are in possession of good things of life. And give them respite for a little while. 11 for, behold, heavy fetters [await them] with Us, and a blazing fire, 12 And food that chokes and a painful punishment - 13 On the Day when the earth and the mountains will be in violent shake, and the mountains will be a heap of sand poured out and flowing down. 14 Surely We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness over you, just as We had sent a Messenger to Pharaoh. 15 But Pharoah rebelled against the messenger, so We seized him with a strong, crushing grip. 16 If you disbelieve, how will you guard yourself against the Day that will make children gray haired, 17 Whereon the sky will be cleft asunder? His Promise needs must be accomplished. 18 Surely this is a Reminder; so let him who will take unto his Lord a way. 19
