The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By oath of the beloved shining star Mohammed (peace and blessings be upon him), when he returned from the Ascent. 1 This fellow-man of yours has not gone astray, nor is he deluded, 2 and neither does he speak out of his own desire: 3 Indeed it is not except a Revelation which is revealed, 4 He has been taught (this Quran) by one mighty in power [Jibrael (Gabriel)]. 5 one endowed with immense wisdom. He came forth and stood poised, 6 while he was in the highest horizon; 7 Then he drew near and drew closer 8 until he was but two bow-lengths away, or even nearer. 9 He revealed to God's servant whatever he wanted. 10 The (Prophet's) heart lied not (in seeing) what he (Muhammad SAW) saw. 11 will you, then, contend with him as to what he saw? 12 And certainly he saw him in another descent, 13 by the lote-tree of the farthest limit, 14 near which is Paradise. 15 When the tree was covered with a covering, 16 (Muhammad's) eyes did not deceive him, nor did they lead him to falsehood. 17 Verily he saw one of the greater revelations of his Lord. 18 HAVE YOU, then, ever considered [what you are worshipping in] Al-Lat and Al-Uzza, 19 And Manat (another idol of the pagan Arabs), the other third? 20 Are yours the males and His the females? 21 Behold, such would be indeed a division most unfair! 22 They are naught but names which you have named, you and your fathers; Allah has not sent for them any authority. They follow naught but conjecture and the low desires which (their) souls incline to; and certainly the guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Or shall man have whatever he fancies? 24 Allah's is the last and the first. 25
