(The tribe of) Thamud denied the messengers (of Allah) 141 Their brother Salih said to them: 'Will you not be cautious? 142 "I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 143 so fear you God, and obey you me.' 144 And I do not ask you any reward for it; my reward is only with the Lord of the worlds: 145 "Will you be left secure in that which you have here? 146 amidst [these] gardens and springs 147 sown fields and palmtrees, with slender spathes. 148 And dwellings hewed out of mountains ingeniously? 149 Fear Allah and obey me 150 And do not obey the bidding of the extravagant, 151 who do corruption in the earth, and set not things aright.' 152 They said, “You are under a magic spell.” 153 You are nothing but a man like us. Bring us a token if you speak the truth." 154 He said: "Here is a she-camel: she has a right of watering, and ye have a right of watering, (severally) on a day appointed. 155 And do not touch her with evil, lest the punishment of a grievous day should overtake you. 156 Yet they hamstrung her, and in the morning they were remorseful, 157 and the chastisement seized them. Surely in that is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 158 Your Lord, He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 159
