The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 stand up, deliver your warning, 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 Thy raiment purify, 4 stay away from sins 5 And do not confer favor to acquire more 6 and persevere for your Lord's sake. 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 that shall be a Harsh Day 9 Not easy upon the disbelievers. 10 Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. 11 And gave him abundant wealth 12 and children as [love's] witnesses, 13 and to whose life I gave so wide a scope: 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give him even more! 15 By no means! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: 16 I shall force him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 Surely he reflected and guessed, 18 and woe to him; how he plotted! 19 Again accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 20 He then dared to lift his gaze. 21 frowned and scowled, 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 He said, 'This is naught but a trumped-up sorcery; 24 Naught is this but the word of Man. 25 I will soon fling him into hell. 26 And what do you know what Hell is? 27 It neither spares, nor releases, 28 It scorches people's skin 29 over it are nineteen. 30 And We have set none but angels as guardians of the Fire, and We have fixed their number (19) only as a trial for the disbelievers, in order that the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) may arrive at a certainty [that this Quran is the truth as it agrees with their Books i.e. their number (19) is written in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and the believers may increase in Faith (as this Quran is the truth) and that no doubts may be left for the people of the Scripture and the believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy) and the disbelievers may say: "What Allah intends by this (curious) example?" Thus Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none can know the hosts of your Lord but He. And this (Hell) is nothing else than a (warning) reminder to mankind. 31
