Tell them the story of Abraham, 69 Behold, he said to his father and his people: "What worship ye?" 70 They said: We worship idols, and are ever devoted unto them. 71 He asked: "Do they hear you when you call them 72 or can they benefit or harm you?" 73 They said: "Nay, but we found our fathers doing thus (what we do)." 74 Said [Abraham]: "Have you, then, ever considered what it is that you have been worshipping 75 you, and your elderly fathers? 76 are my enemies? Not so the Lord of the Universe. 77 Who created me, and He doth guide me, 78 “And the One Who feeds me and gives me to drink.” 79 and heals me when I am sick. 80 "Who will cause me to die, and then to life (again); 81 "And Who, I hope will forgive me my faults on the Day of Recompense, (the Day of Resurrection)," 82 (And then Abraham prayed): "My Lord, endow me with knowledge and wisdom and join me with the righteous, 83 “And give me proper fame among the succeeding generations.” 84 And put me among the inheritors of Paradise. 85 And forgive my father. Indeed, he has been of those astray. 86 "And let me not be in disgrace on the Day when (men) will be raised up;- 87 The Day when neither wealth nor sons shall benefit 88 except for him who comes to God with a pure heart. 89 Paradise will be brought near those who take heed for themselves and follow the straight path; 90 and the Fire will be uncovered for those who strayed, 91 And it will be said to them, "Where are those you used to worship 92 apart from God? Do they help you or help themselves?' 93 Then they shall be hurled therein, they and the seduced ones. 94 And the hosts of Iblis, together. 95 "They will say there in their mutual bickerings: 96 By Allah, we were truly in a manifest error, 97 When we made you equal with the Lord of the Worlds. 98 Only the sinful ones made us go astray. 99 We have no one to intercede for us before God 100 and no sincere friend. 101 (Alas!) If we only had a chance to return (to the world), we shall truly be among the believers! 102 Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers. 103 Surely thy Lord, He is the All-mighty, the All-compassionate. 104
