The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ When the forthcoming event does occur. 1 And there can be no denying of its befalling. 2 some shall be abased and others exalted. 3 This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken 4 and the mountains crumbled 5 And become dust dispersing. 6 And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). 7 Then (as to) the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 And those who surpassed have indeed excelled. 10 They shall be the nearest to God. 11 in the Gardens of Delight, 12 A number of people from those of old, 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 On couches in wrought with gold. 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 Surrounded by immortal boys. 17 With cups, and jugs, and a glass from the flowing wine, 18 No after-ache will they receive therefrom, nor will they suffer intoxication: 19 And fruits that they may like. 20 and the meat of any bird that they may desire; 21 And [for them are] fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes, 22 like unto pearls [still] hidden in their shells. 23 shall be their recompense for their deeds. 24 Therein they hear no vain or sinful discourse. 25 only the words of peace and tranquillity. 26 The Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 27 mid thornless lote-trees 28 And clusters of banana plants. 29 and extended shade, 30 And water everflowing. 31 And abundant fruit, 32 Whose season is not limited, and their supply will not be cut off, 33 And carpets raised. 34 We have indeed developed these women with an excellent development. 35 and made them virgins, 36 Loving, equals in age, 37 For the Companions of the Right Hand. 38
