The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Arise and warn, 2 And thine Lord magnify! 3 And thine inner self purify! 4 and defilement flee! 5 and do not think that by doing such deeds, you have done a great favor to God. 6 be patient unto your Lord. 7 For when the trumpet is sounded, 8 Truly, that Day will be a Hard Day. 9 not of ease, for all who [now] deny the truth! 10 Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. 11 and appointed for him ample wealth 12 And children present [with him] 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 Then he desires that I should add more. 15 By no means! For to Our Signs he has been refractory! 16 We shall make him suffer the torment of hell without relief. 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 Again, death seize him, how he determined! 20 Then looked he, 21 Then he frowned and he scowled; 22 Then he turned away, and was haughty. 23 And said, “This is nothing but magic learnt from earlier men.” 24 This is not but the word of a human being." 25 Anon shall I roast him into the Scorching Fire. 26 And what knoweth thou that which the Scorching Fire? 27 It leaves and spares no one and nothing. 28 It strips away the hide of man. 29 over it are nineteen. 30 We have appointed none but angels to guard the Fire, and made their number only as a trial for the unbelievers, so that those to whom the Book was given are certain and those who believe increase in belief. And that those who were given the Book, and those who believe will not be in doubt. And that those in whose hearts there is a sickness, together with the unbelievers, may say: 'What did Allah intend by this as an example' As such, Allah leaves in error whom He will and He guides whomsoever He will. None knows the hosts of your Lord except He. This is no more than a Reminder to humans. 31
