Al-Layl
The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night, when it envelops, 1 and the day in splendour 2 And by Him Who created male and female; 3 Your striving is most surely (directed to) various (ends). 4 So for one who gave and practised piety 5 and confirms the reward most fair, 6 We will make smooth for him the path of ease (goodness). 7 But he who is greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient. 8 and cries lies to the reward most fair, 9 We shall surely ease for him the Path of Hardship (the Fire). 10 His wealth will not avail him when he falls into ruin. 11 Surely Ours is it to show the way, 12 And truly, unto Us (belong) the last (Hereafter) and the first (this world). 13 I have warned you about the fierce blazing fire 14 whereat none but the most wretched shall be roasted, 15 Who gives the lie (to the truth) and turns (his) back. 16 But save him who fears 17 Who giveth his wealth that he may grow (in goodness). 18 And not [giving] for anyone who has [done him] a favor to be rewarded 19 except the pleasure of their Lord, the Most High 20 and the reward (of their Lord) will certainly make them happy. 21
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
