The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Recite thou in the name of thy Lord Who hath created 1 Has created man from a clot (a piece of thick coagulated blood). 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Generous, 3 Who taught by the pen, 4 The One Who taught man all what he did not know. 5 Yes indeed, man is surely rebellious. 6 Because he sees himself free from want. 7 Surely your returning is to your Lord. 8 Have you seen one who prevents 9 A servant when he prays? 10 Bethinkest thou, if he is himself guided, 11 Or had enjoined piety, (it would have been better)? 12 Bethinkest thou, if he belieth and turneth away? 13 Knoweth he not that Allah beholdeth? 14 Let him beware! If he desist not, We will drag him by the forelock,- 15 A forelock, lying, sinning. 16 So let him summon his helpmates; 17 We will call the guards of hell. 18 By no means! Obey not thou him. Continue to adore, and continue to draw nigh. ۩ 19
