He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 you attend to him, 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 And hath fear, 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 These verses are a reminder 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 In honored books, 13 exalted and purified, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 noble and purified. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 then eased his path for him, 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 Olives and dates, 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 his mother, his father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
