He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 you pay him no heed. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 On honoured leaves 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 noble and pious. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 then the way eased for him, 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 and let the earth to break open 26 to yield therein corn, 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 his wife and his children. 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
