The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the star when it setteth. 1 That your companion is not confused, nor has he gone astray, 2 and neither does he speak out of his own desire: 3 This is only revelation communicated, 4 taught him by one terrible in power, 5 The Lord of Strength; so he attained completion, 6 And he is in the highest part of the horizon. 7 Then the Spectacle became closer, and came down in full view. 8 he was but two bows' length or even nearer, 9 and revealed to God's servant what he revealed. 10 His heart did not lie of what he saw. 11 What! So do you dispute with him regarding what he saw? 12 Indeed, he saw him another time 13 Near the lote-tree of the last boundary. 14 Close to which is the Garden of Tranquility, 15 When the lote-tree was being enveloped, by whatever around it. 16 The sight turned not aside, nor it exceeded. 17 truly did he see some of the most profound of his Sustainer's symbols. 18 Have you really considered al-Lat and al-"Uzza, 19 and, another, the third manat? 20 What, have you males, and He females! 21 That indeed is a division most unfair! 22 these are nothing but names which you yourselves have devised, you and your forefathers. God has sent down no authority for them. They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own selves desire, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord! 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 Rather, to Allah belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. 25
