Certainly Aaron had said to them even before (the return of Moses): "My people, you were fallen into error because of the calf. Surely your Lord is Most Compassionate; so follow me and obey my command." 90 They said "So long as Moses does not come back we are not going to give it up, and we will remain devoted to it." 91 [Moses] said, "O Aaron, what prevented you, when you saw them going astray, 92 From following me? Then have you disobeyed my order?" 93 Answered [Aaron]: "O my mother's son! Seize me not by my beard, nor by my head! Behold, I was afraid lest [on thy return] thou say, 'Thou hast caused a split among the children of Israel, and hast paid no heed to my bidding!" 94 Musa said: what was thy object, O Samiri? 95 He said: l saw that which they saw not; so I seized a handful from the footstep of the messenger, and then cast it; thus my soul embellished the affair to me. 96 Moses said, "Go away! Throughout your life you will not be able to let anyone touch you. This will be your punishment in this life. The time for your final punishment is inevitable. You will never be able to avoid it. Look at your god which you have been worshipping. We will burn it in the fire and scatter its ashes into the sea." 97 Your Ilah (God) is only Allah, the One (La ilaha illa Huwa) (none has the right to be worshipped but He). He has full knowledge of all things. 98 (O Muhammad), thus do We recount to you the events of the past, and We have bestowed upon you from Ourself an admonition. 99 Whoever disregards (the Quran) will be heavily burdened with sin on the Day of Judgment 100 and live in it for ever; how evil will that burden be for them on the Day of Resurrection. 101 The day the trumpet blast is sounded We shall raise the sinners blind, 102 Whispering secretly among themselves, “You have not stayed on earth but for ten days.” 103 We are Best Aware of what they utter when their best in conduct say: Ye have tarried but a day. 104
