Recite unto them the story of Abraham: 69 when he asked his father and his people, "What is that which you worship?" 70 They said: We worship idols, so we shall be their votaries. 71 He asked them, "Can the idols hear you when you pray to them 72 or can they benefit or harm you?" 73 They said: "Nay, but we found our fathers doing so." 74 (Abraham) said, "Do you know that what you worship 75 "Ye and your fathers before you?- 76 Lo! they are (all) an enemy unto me, save the Lord of the Worlds, 77 "The One Who created me, so He will guide me." 78 Who gives me food and drink, 79 "And when I fall ill, so it is He Who heals me." 80 Who will cause me to die and then will again restore me to life; 81 "And the One Who, upon Whom I pin my hopes, will forgive me my mistakes on the Day of Judgement." 82 Lord, grant me authority. Join me to the righteous ones. 83 "And give me proper fame among the succeeding generations." 84 "And make me among the inheritors of the Gardens of serenity." 85 Forgive my father. He has gone astray. 86 and disgrace me not on the Day when people will be raised to life, 87 The day when wealth and sons avail not (any man) 88 except what is done in obedience to God with a submissive heart. 89 And the garden shall be brought near for those who guard (against evil), 90 And the (Hell) Fire will be placed in full view of the erring. 91 and they will be asked: "Where are the gods that you worshipped 92 "Instead of Allah? Can they help you or (even) help themselves?" 93 Then they will be thrown on their faces into the (Fire), They and the Ghawun (devils, and those who were in error). 94 And the soldiers of Iblees, all together. 95 And they will say while they dispute with one another, 96 'By Allah, we were certainly in clear error, 97 When we made you equal to the Lord of the worlds; 98 And none led us astray except the culprits. 99 Now we have none to intercede for us, 100 Nor a close friend (to help us). 101 Then if we only had a return [to the world] and could be of the believers... " 102 Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers! 103 And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. 104
