AND, INDEED, We have created man out of sounding clay, out of dark-slime transmuted 26 And created the jinn before him, from smokeless fire. 27 And (remember) when your Lord said to the angels: "I am going to create a man (Adam) from sounding clay of altered black smooth mud. 28 And when I have fashioned him and breathed into him of My spirit, bow before him in homage;" 29 All the angels prostrated before Adam 30 But Iblis did not; he refused to be with the prostrates. 31 Allah said: O Iblis! what aileth thou that thou art not with the prostrates? 32 [Iblis] replied: "It is not for me to prostrate myself before mortal man whom Thou hast created out of sounding clay, out of dark slime transmuted!" 33 God said, "Then get out of here; for you are accursed, 34 and the curse shall be on you till the Day of Judgement!" 35 He said: 'My Lord, reprieve me till the Day they are raised' 36 He said: So surely you are of the respited ones 37 Till the Day of appointed time. 38 [Whereupon Iblis] said: "O my Sustainer! Since Thou hast thwarted me, I shall indeed make [all that is evil] on earth seem goodly to them, and shall most certainly beguile them - into grievous error 39 "Except Your chosen, (guided) slaves among them." 40 (To which God) said: "This way is right by Me. 41 Lo! as for My slaves, thou hast no power over any of them save such of the froward as follow thee, 42 And verily Hell is the place promised unto them all. 43 There are seven gates in it, and to each gate a portion of them has been allotted. 44
