O THOU [in thy solitude] enfolded! 1 Arise and warn! 2 And thine Lord magnify! 3 thy robes purify 4 Pollution shun! 5 And bestow not favour that thou mayest receive more. 6 and persevere for your Lord's sake. 7 So when the Trumpet will be blown. 8 that Day will be a hard and distressing Day. 9 Not of ease, for disbelievers. 10 LEAVE Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 And then granted him resources in abundance. 12 And gave him sons present before him. 13 And for whom I smoothed everything. 14 Yet he desires that I should give more. 15 Nay, verily, it is against Our messages that he knowingly, stubbornly sets himself 16 I will cover him with arduous torment. 17 For he thought and he plotted -- 18 And woe to him! How he plotted!- 19 And once more let him be cursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he considered [again]; 21 Then he frowned and he looked in a bad tempered way; 22 Then he turned back and was arrogant 23 Then said he: "This is nothing but magic, derived from of old; 24 It is nothing but the word of a mortal' 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 And what knoweth thou that which the Scorching Fire? 27 It does not allow anyone to live, and neither does it leave anyone to die; 28 Blackening the skins. 29 Over it are appointed nineteen. 30 We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers – in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers – and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt – and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. 31
