The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night when it envelopeth, 1 By the Day as it appears in glory; 2 Consider the creation of the male and the female! 3 Certainly, your efforts and deeds are diverse (different in aims and purposes); 4 So for one who gave and practised piety 5 and affirmed the Truth of goodness: 6 We will facilitate for him the easy end. 7 As for him who was a miser and behaved with aversion (to Allah), 8 and calls the ultimate good a lie 9 We shall surely ease for him the Path of Hardship (the Fire). 10 and what will his wealth avail him when he goes down [to his grave]? 11 Indeed, Guidance is Ours, 12 and to Us belong the hereafter and the worldly life. 13 Therefor have I warned you of the flaming Fire 14 Which only the most wretched must endure, 15 who have rejected the (Truth) and have turned away from it. 16 But the righteous one will avoid it - 17 [He] who gives [from] his wealth to purify himself 18 And is under no one's obligation to return his favour, 19 But only seeking the countenance of his Lord, Most High. 20 And he shall soon be well-pleased. 21
