The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
CONSIDER this unfolding [of God's message,] as it comes down from on high! 1 Your companion hath not gone astray, nor hath he erred. 2 nor does he speak out of his desire. 3 This is naught but a revelation revealed, 4 Taught to him by one intense in strength - 5 [an angel] endowed with surpassing power, who in time manifested himself in his true shape and nature, 6 being on the higher horizon, 7 Thereafter he drew nigh, then he let himself down. 8 Until a space of two bow (arcs) or even less remained, 9 And he revealed to His Servant what he revealed. 10 The heart was not untrue in (making him see) what he saw. 11 what, will you dispute with him what he sees? 12 And certainly he saw him in another descent, 13 Nigh unto the lote-tree at the boundary. 14 Near it is the Garden of Abode. 15 when there covered the Lote-Tree that which covered; 16 Neither did sight falter nor exceed the bounds. 17 for indeed he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you then considered the Lat and the Uzza, 19 and the third one, Manat? -- 20 What! for you the males and for Him the females! 21 That indeed is a division unfair! 22 They are not but [mere] names you have named them - you and your forefathers - for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow not except assumption and what [their] souls desire, and there has already come to them from their Lord guidance. 23 Shall man have whatever he craves? 24 Allah's is the last and the first. 25
