He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 So you are after him! 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 And he fears, 9 you ignore him. 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 exalted, purified, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 and from his mother and father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 Dust shall cover them 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
