The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
O THOU [in thy solitude] enfolded! 1 arise and give warning! 2 and exalt your Lord, 3 And your garments purify! 4 And pollution shun. 5 Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! 6 and be patient unto thy Lord. 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 that day will be a harsh day, 9 not of ease, for all who [now] deny the truth! 10 Leave Me alone with he whom I created 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 And children present [with him] 13 and for whom I have smoothed the way (to power and riches), 14 Yet he wants that I should give him more. 15 By no means! For to Our Signs he has been refractory! 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Verily, he thought and plotted; 18 So accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 19 What an evil plan he has made! 20 Then he looked round; 21 frowned and scowled; 22 Then he turned back and was arrogant 23 Then he said: "This is nothing but magic from that of old; 24 "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I will cast him into the fire of Hell. 26 Would that you really knew what hell is! 27 It leaves and spares no one and nothing. 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 and it has nineteen angelic keepers. 30 And We have not made the keepers of the Fire except angels. And We have not made their number except as a trial for those who disbelieve - that those who were given the Scripture will be convinced and those who have believed will increase in faith and those who were given the Scripture and the believers will not doubt and that those in whose hearts is hypocrisy and the disbelievers will say, "What does Allah intend by this as an example?" Thus does Allah leave astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none knows the soldiers of your Lord except Him. And mention of the Fire is not but a reminder to humanity. 31
