The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I swear by the sun and its brilliance, 1 and the moon as it reflects the sun! 2 And by the day as it shows up (the sun's) brightness; 3 and by the night when it enshrouds him! 4 And the heaven and Him Who made it, 5 By the Earth and its (wide) expanse: 6 by the soul and how He formed it, 7 Then He showed him what is wrong for him and what is right for him; 8 those who purify their souls will certainly have everlasting happiness 9 And he fails that corrupts it! 10 The Thamud denied (the truth) in their perverseness 11 when the most wicked man among them rose up. 12 And the messenger of Allah said: It is the she-camel of Allah, so let her drink! 13 But they belied him, and hamstrung her. So their Lord crushed them for their sin and leveled it (their village). 14 He dreadeth not the sequel (of events). 15
