He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 when the blind came to him. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 Yet you pay attention 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 and fears (Allah), 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 to yield therein corn, 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 Olives and dates, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Some faces that Day, will be bright (true believers of Islamic Monotheism). 38 laughing, joyous; 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
